This Kawai KG-2D is in pampered, gently-used, all original condition, and features an eye-popping, richly-grained, polished rosewood cabinet. It even includes its original factory duet bench, which matches the piano perfectly. We haven’t had any other Kawai grands with a rosewood finish in years, and don’t expect to get another one any time soon. Kawai no longer offers any of their grand models with a rosewood finish, but for the sake of price comparison, if you were to buy their same-size Kawai model today, the GX2, with an ebony finish, the least expensive finish offered, the current MSRP would be $52,495. While you think about that, think about this: Even if you got an impossibly huge discount from a new Kawai dealer, you would still end up paying several times the price of this piano. Kawai grand pianos are considered among the best-designed and best-made grand pianos in the world. They have thrived in the same city (Hamamatsu) as their larger and more famous rival, Yamaha, since 1927, when former Yamaha designer Koichi Kawai founded his own piano manufacturing company. Their international reputation for designing and building excellent grand pianos began with the KG series seen here in the 1970s, though they were already well-known and respected in Japan for decades. Why buy new?
