Kawai is famous in our industry for its idiosyncratic and often confusing model numbers. Given the quality of their pianos, we have decided to find their quirky model numbering system charming. For example, this piano is IDENTICAL to Kawai’s famous US-50 model in every way except for the fact that it has a polished cherry finish rather than the polished ebony finish common to all US-50 models. Sometimes called a “super upright”, the US-50 class of Kawai uprights has extra girth, extra power, and a large, oversize, grand piano-style music desk, making them among the most formidable of upright pianos, and the most affordable of the super-uprights.
