Description

The original Steinway Model V was discontinued in the US during the Great Depression when many Americans shifted towards smaller, cheaper vertical piano models like the spinet. This amazingly well-preserved Steinway V is entirely original and obviously was NOT someone’s overworked practice piano. The remarkably good condition of the original hammers and other internal parts, as well as an original matching contemporaneous duet bench, indicate that this was a lightly used and well-cared-for piano. As with EVERY piano we sell, we have no reservations about including our standard 10-year warranty on all parts and labor with this piano, which is double the warranty coverage included with NEW Steinway pianos! Plus, unlike any new piano, every piano we sell at Rick Jones Pianos includes a lifetime upgrade guarantee. That means that if you ever want to trade your piano back to us to upgrade to another piano, you only need to choose a piano that is priced higher than the one you’re trading back and we guarantee to honor your original purchase price in trade.

*Interesting footnote:

Steinway & Sons was founded in New York City in 1853 by German-born piano maker Heinrich Steinweg, later Americanized to Henry Steinway. After Henry died in 1871, his sons opened a second factory in Hamburg, Germany in 1880 to serve the European market. The Hamburg factory was allowed to operate semi-autonomously, sometimes continuing to manufacture models that were discontinued in the US if they continued to be in demand in Europe. Such was the case with the Model V which, though discontinued in the US, was not discontinued in Hamburg and, as far as know, continues to be made in Steinway’s Hamburg factory to this day, with the slightly updated model designation of V-125 (shorthand for 125 cm tall).
